OMAR APOLLO HEART

TMR regular Omar Apollo is back today playing another hand in his deck with the most pop-leaning and polished song of his to date. ‘Heart’ is noticeably different from Apollo’s previous releases, such as the dreamy ‘brakelights’ or funky ‘Algo’, but there are some key similarities that will have previous fans smiling. Let’s start with that falsetto - it’s as sublime as ever, although on ‘Heart’ it does seem to reach new highs. Other times, Apollo takes on a How To Dress Well smoothness, especially in his English language verses, while the sensual Spanish singing is entirely of Apollo’s own making. Simmering underneath is just a hint of the Indiana artist’s faithful guitar, but really the emphasis here is on electronic beats and slick production courtesy of Apollo, Blake Slatkin, & Bailey Lindley. ‘Heart’ is a new sound for this musician, so It will be interesting to see where this new side to the usually lo-fi crooner will show itself next. - HT
